Attention to all Sugarcane growers for major threat of your crop!
A most destructive "Phytoplasmic (White leaf) disease" is spreading rapidly day by day. In last year it was limited only on ratoon crop of variety HSF-240 but now in this year it is highly damage to ratoon as well as new plantations of some other varieties also.
Causal Organisms:
Plant / Leaf hoppers.
Damage Symptoms:
* The affected plants will be retard in their growth.
* First centrally whorl leaves will be light yellowish and then creamy white in color.
* At the base of affected bunches many whitish tillers also be appeared in broom shaped, which not able to cane formation.
Remedies:
* Immediately roughing/uprooted the affected plants.
* Manage the diseased free nurseries.
* Manage the light traps regularly in affected plots during July-sept.
* The affected crop should not be kept for ratoon & also for new plantation.
* Before sowing the seed sets should be soaked at 50C' in hot water for 1 hour.
* Don't be sprayed any pesticide for their control purpose bcoz it will be ineffective
